The Argos File, an incredible, cutting edge virtual reality project that I am very proud to have scored has been selected for the first ever VR Official Competition at La Biennale di Venezia (Venice Film Festival. Directed by Josema Roig and produced my Michael Steiner, this score is one part lofi ambient and one part gnarly industrial.
I was in the studio late one night messing around with a musical exercise in 7/8. For the non-musicians reading this, 7/8 is a time signature (the method in which music is counted, specifically how many beats to a bar). I have an ongoing love affair with 7/8 and have used it frequently throughout my work. For the purpose of this exercise, I wanted to explore the meter in greater depth and see how many different ways I could manipulate it. As I finished the first piece, I decided to work on another and see how different I could make it from the first one. 2 turned into 3, and 3 into 4. Once I finished the 4th piece, I decided to try my hand at taking an existing song written in 4/4 and making it fit into 7/8. I chose a Wilco song, Via Chicago, which has been a favorite of mine for years. Once I finished all 5 tracks, I decided there was no reason to not put it out into the world. I'm very proud of the work I did on 5 in 7 and I hope you enjoy it!
Available now on all digital platforms.
It always puts a smile on my face to hear a usage of something off the Hotpress for Leopold record. This track in particular because it was recorded on a cassette recorder. Fancy digital machines be damned!!!
The Veteran's suicide epidemic is a cause I feel very strongly about, and I was glad to be able to compose the score to this PSA.
